Guest
Does anyone know if there is a lower respiritory tract infecton doing the rounds atm? Our 3 deerhounds have come down with it. The middle one (dog aged 2 1/2) came down first, the elder bitch and younger dog have just started showing signs. They have their own patch of ground to exercise on and don't really mix with other dogs as we are out of town. We've taken the first one to the vets and he thinks it might be Kennel Cough. He's put him on anti bios. The boy was at a show in Malvern, Three Counties, and can only of got it there if so. A breeder we know said plenty of rest and honey for the throat, and don't bother with the anti bios for the other two as like a common cold they will get anyway, and they will have to work there way through it too. Its like a huffing sound from the lower throat. All three are sleeping a lot and feeling very sorry for themselves too. Normally they are quite excitable and want to be playing outside. Any thoughts? silver pigeon 3
My 3 have just had it, nasty cough and feeling sorry for themselves for about 4 days. Vet said take the antibiotics to make sure there is no secondary bacterial infection, most kennel coughs are caused by viral infections in the first instance. 2 weeks on and all 3 are back to normal
al4x
the breeder is right not a lot the vet can do in young dogs, its distressing for a few days then slowly clears up. Its highly contagious at certain points which is why all yours have come down fast. Keep them away from other dogs and as said benylin can help just keep an eye on it dragging on too long and if so call the vet. Don't just turn up in the waiting room as you won't be popular
Siberian Tiger
Mine caught this last year, it was awful to see them suffer. AB's from vet, children's benylin to help with the cough and house arrest worked well with mine. I also removed their collars and when they did go out put harnesses on them to make sure it didn't irritate the throat Hope they get over it soon.
