I am new to this forum and havent used an airgun since I was a lad.

Of the three following guns I have short listed for Rabbits, Rats and Wood Pigeon can you let me know which one you think is the best for the above job and why please as I'm looking to purchase soon.

All shooting will be withing 25-30 yards with a .177

HW97K

AA Pro Sport

Theoben Evolution Carbine

(Current/New Models)

Sorry if this has been asked before, I ran a search but couldnt find a view on all three for pest control/hunting.

TIA

I have a Pro sport and love it. It is smooth and powerful.

It is better balanced the the HW97K as you don't have the underlever under the barrel, it is under the stock.

I have a 4 - 12 x 56 mil dot scope on it and nothing is safe

Cheers

Martin

Go to a gunshop and try them all out...what suits some doesn't suit others!!! by the way all the rifles you have chosen are top notch. I recently bought a Hw95k .177 and it's a superb piece of kit (for hunting what you described) but out of curiosity I went to my local stockist to try some others HW97k, Air Arms, Theoben included. The trip was a bad move, I liked the Hw97k so much I want one...

Of course you could always save some money and buy my TX200. It kills rabbits out to 40 yards no bother.

Please excuse my insolent interruption, but if ya don't try, ya don't get, do ya? LOL.

Was going to say add the tx200 to your list...............

97k too heavy..........

Pro sport,,,,,,,,,,,go for the tx200 instead....easier cocking mechanism.

Evo is nice tho................

Out of the 4..........

value for money will be the tx200.

Thanks mate, But from what I understand the Tx200 is the same weight as the HW97K and is a bit noisey to cock in the field so I did't include it in my choice.(rattles a bit?)

Evilv, Thanks for your offer mate, but its a .177 I'm after and yes your right "If ya don't try ya don't get!"

hi new shot,

where abouts in the SE are you? im down in margate/dover and run a club in the dover area, all the rifles on your list are down the club on a regular basis there are several HW97s and a couple of pro sports, i use a fenman profile which is an ultra carbined evolution with thoeben mounts and a fancy stock.

The evolution would be the hardest to pick up and start using if you have had any experiance of shooting, but it can also be one of the best if you can master the recoil.

feel free to contact me on mobile number that im just about to pm you

if it were my money on the line i would go for a TX200 MK3 with a slight mod to the anti bear trap, this means you can work the action without the anoying CLICK-CLICK-CLICK. very simple but you must be in full control of the cocking lever at all times whilst cocking, as the anti bear trap is a safty device and should never be by passed to save noise, you can also cock it silently even without the rifle being modifed in any wauy, just hold the catch down when your cocking the rifle, job done silently :good:

The HW97 and the pro sport i would eliminate due to the fact that once its cocked its got to be fired to re;ease it safely, the evolution and TX can be de cocked controling the barrel/under lever. Though the pro sport can be de cocked but it scares the hell out of me doing this.

hope this helps you out and please feel free to call me any time about air rifles :good:

ROB

ps the club meets sundays and thursdays along singledge lane, in whitefield, im there 9am-5pm feel free to just turn up
