coneyhunter
Hello all, i have been given some 65mm paper hulls , pre primed and am wanting to load them with a 30 gram lead load of no 6. I will be using a fiber wad and i beleive the primers inside the hulls are either Cheddite or Fiocchi. i usually use red dot powder but have only ever loaded with plastic hulls. what charge of powder should i use for the above load? many thanks
Underdog
All I know is,,,,is that paper shells and fiber wads need generally a little more powder than plastic and plastic wads. Red dot pressures rise quick so be aware! I would try a middle charge weight after cross referencing any available data. U.

deershooter
Felt wads normally need about 10% more powder not less Deershooter
longgun
According to old recipes, add %5 powder for plastic to paper cartridge transition. Again add %5 powder for plastic to paper(felt, fiber, cork) wads. Or send to a ballistic laboratory and learn pressure and velocity values. I never fire a cartridge without lab tests
Floating Chamber
Unlike the old quality paper tube shells of yesteryear, these modern used cases have a habit of separating from the head.
