Scully
The Primary Evidence sub group assessing the risk to human health on the LAG and it's Debbie Pain (WWT) and Rhys Green (RSPB). I mean you couldn't make it up!! Let's be honest, they're hardly going to be unbiased in their assessments. I know, it's incredible isn't it! It would be hilarious if it weren't serious...we truly, truly get what we deserve.Brilliant!

Well we've got FACE(less) fighting our corner. I'm not sure we ever deserved that.

David BASC
I don’t think the LAG is a year behind, its remit was, as far as I know, to produce an initial report within 12 months, this it did and the remit is now to gather the evidence of what if any risks there are. This is not something that can be done over night of course. As I say there are regular updates on their site. Of course, as and when, like we all hope, it transpires that what little risk there is to human health from lead shot can be overcome by proper preparation of the shot game before its cooked, and given that the RSPB and WWT are on the group, it will spike their guns wont it. As to FACE, UK well I cant think of a better thing than to have all the main shooting organisations standing side by side with common objective and a common view on keeping the status quo on lead shot. Its far better in my view to have a strong unified front to tackle the real issues rather than having organisations firing off at tangents and starting campaigns that sound great, but when you look at it in the cold light of day cant deliver, as we have been told by several MeP’s in this latest MeP venture. This could lull us into a false sense of security. Its all well and good several of these MeP’s saying they will speak out against any proposed ban or restriction, but those that have looked at it know full well that there is little if anything they can do, and have said as much in their replies. The ECHA / REACH review and subsequent actions are purely technical / science based and nothing at all to do with MeP’s, so why were we encouraged to lobby them? That’s why the FACE UK report on shot important, it looked at and reported on the facts, the issues and clearly said that lead is by far the preferred type of shot . ECHA have taken the FACE / FACE UK report , there has been no report or paper on shot types to ECHA from MeP’s We now need to see the ECHA report… Bye for now chaps, about to go on my holidays, but if there are any changes or updates they will be on the BASC web site on the link I posted above. Best to all David
Scully
Maybe it's my natural scepticism, but nothing in the above post reassures me in the slightest. I haven't lobbied my MEP;I was shooting with my former MEP two seasons ago and mentioned this to him,and he told me regarding this issue that there is very little they can do.....unless we leave the European Union of course.
