borich
My brother in law has a farm in Cornwall and is happy to give me permission to use a rim fire on his farm to deal with the rabbits. My parents house down there is having a cabinet installed and police informed. So when I go Cornwall I got somewhere to store my shotgun safely. Would this land be acceptable to the police as I live in Kent? Or does land have to be local?
theosmith
unless fac is registeed as a estate gun dont think you can use it! youd need your own fac for your own gun, a rifle registered as a parents and on there ticket is for them to use only shotguns can be used anywhere suitible with no noticfications to police, feo etc

I think he will have his own cabinet at his house, his own FAC (at his house address), but he'll have an additional cabinet at his parents house (which they can't have access to unless they also hold a FAC) for when he is shooting down there, simply as a place to keep the gun secure while staying there and shooting. Yes, you can have the land some distance away. There is no requirement for the land to be local - many people travel a very long way to get to their shooting land. borich
Bedwards1966 that's exactly what I'm looking to do. My brother in law is here this weekend and has is happy to give me permission to shoot rabbits on his farm and sign the relevant forms etc. When the firearms officer is back in a couple of weeks to bring my certificate I'll ask him his opinion before I apply. It will be good getting land as when I look for land around north Kent I will already have land I will be shooting on in Cornwall so I won't come across as a newbie
borich
Spoke to my brother-in-law as he was up this weekend and he is happy for my to apply for FAC and has given me permission to use his land for shooting rabbits with a .22 rimfire. Looking at what I need to do I have the following on my to do list 1) speak to firearms officer to see if he is happy with me having my first shooting land 289 miles away. I go from Kent to Cornwall ever 6-8 weeks.. 2) Ammo cabinet in my flat (already have 5 gun cabinet in my flat) 3) Shotgun/rifle cabinet with ammo storage at my parents. Was thinking of this one My link 4) Choose the selected gun I require. I was thinking of applying for CZ 452 Style .22 My link 5) Decent scope and lamping gear 6) Need ammo what would you suggest is best to put down on the form? 7) Insurance. What do people recommend 8) trade in my car and get a L200 truck (in my dreams) I think that covers it!

I go from Kent to Cornwall ever 6-8 weeks.. I'm sure you'll be fine with that. If you are willing to travel that distance that's down to you, you have the 'good reason' required for the rifle you apply for. 2) Ammo cabinet in my flat (already have 5 gun cabinet in my flat) 3) Shotgun/rifle cabinet with ammo storage at my parents. Was thinking of this one My link 4) Choose the selected gun I require. I was thinking of applying for CZ 452 Style .22 My link Good choice of gun. 5) Decent scope and lamping gear 6) Need ammo what would you suggest is best to put down on the form? I suggest asking to buy 1000, hold 1200. They might drop it down to buy 500, hold 600, but there is no harm in asking for more. Anyway, as your shooting some distance away it's reasonable to want a decent stock to carry you through a few days shooting. 7) Insurance. What do people recommend Depends. You can get simple insurance easily, but you might want to join an organisation such as BASC who (theoretically) help support our sport as well. Plus they can offer legal advice. Do a search on here, there are some threads on it (any new ones started get locked by the mods, read the old ones). 8) trade in my car and get a L200 truck (in my dreams) I think that covers it! Make sure you apply for a moderator for your rifle (list it as a separate firearm on your application). Subsonic ammo is generally the best choice in a .22lr (when you finally get one). Dave-G
Assuming your FAC is granted with conditions as to where you can shoot it (AKA a closed certificate) the land in Cornwall will have to be deemed suitable by the Devon and Cornwall constabulary, and Kent costabulary will have to confirm clearance - or arrange clearance vis D&C. I have hundreds of acres spread across several farms I can shoot on down there but had to phone D&C to check they were cleared for the caliber I wanted to use on them. D&C are very helpfull in this aspect. Further, although at that time D&C allowed rimfire for fox, Leicestershire did not. This put me in the position of me not being allowed to use HMR for fox in Cornwall (or anywhere else) but but my brother was allowed to use HMR for fox in Leicestershire. The point I'm making is that the conditions on your certificate will apply to you regardless of where you use the firearm. EDIT: After re-reading your post it seems unclear as to whether you would be using your shotgun down there - or his rimfire? There are no restrictions on where you can use a shotgun - unless perhaps it's an FAC one but I have no experience of that aspect. borich
Sorry just to be clear it would be a .22 rim fire. If I used a shotgun at night there and woke my nephews on farm (4 and 18 months) my life would not be worth living!
