RedRobin
Hi all Ive been offered a permission only on the basis of reducing the Fox population , leading onto rabbit , pigeon etc Problem is I don't shoot FAC. I personally dont want to shoot MrFox with a shotgun, which im licensed for. ( Call me stupid on the SG angle, but I think Fox is best dealt with by FAC. ) Do I ask a fellow FAC holder into shoot to secure the permission, but do I risk of losing the Permission before its started ? Cheers Rich Edited July 27, 2012 by RedRobin

pboro shot
using the right cartridges/shot size fox is dead before he hits the ground. call them in 20, 15 yds the buzz you get from a fox running at you is as good as any shooting fix i know if nothing else youll get good at calling/field craft
bedwards1966
Someone might appear on here with a suitable rifle, perhaps it's worth posting in the 'shooting available' section. A shotgun is perfectly OK for foxes, no. 3 shot in a magnum cartridge can go straight through a fox at 30 yards, very humane within sensible distances. If you can get close enough that might be your best bet. Perhaps now would be a good time to put in for your FAC...

bedwards1966
What cart would you recommend for a 70mm SG ? Thanks No. 3 is fine. You can go to about 1, but don't go for the daft sizes as you lose pattern (to the point where a fox might have the pellets/balls going all round him!). If possible I'd put it through the tightest choke you've got, and don't go beyond 35 yards to be sure of a humane kill.
kyska
Rich, I've PM'd you back, I'm sure we can work something out with rifle and shotgun combined. Rich Edited July 30, 2012 by kyska
kent
shotgun is fine within limits. Shot choice depends much on pattern which should be tested. I always seem to find the best results with No.1 or BB. heavier shot loads can work well in 3 1/2" to further ranges than many expect and cheap semi autos are available to handle said loads- its a must to test though
