First season beating

Morning all

I have been asked to beat a few times this upcoming season and I will be bringing my 18 month old cocker along. I'd like to take the next few months getting him into a bit of training specifically for beating.

Any advice on whats good would be much appreciated!

Thanks

try and find some dogging in and go from there, plenty of live game is the best experience and steadyness to it the name of the game. Then take it very easy to start with keep on top of the dog and only let off the lead for short periods at the start of drives as you build up. It can very easily blow their tiny minds so no matter how well it goes just be prepared for the inevitable when it decides it knows best and runs in. As the season goes they can easily get worse rather than better as they get more clued up to whats going on, ultimately enjoy it but its definitely heart stopping stuff the first few times out with a dog.

al4x - thanks for the help - that's great!

Don't think I have much chance of getting any dogging in but will try and keep working on close work and see if i can get near some live game. I guess working him through woods and dense areas would also help?

Thanks
