Salopian
cookoff, Is that for a thousand wads? Actually, I would think that carefully selected components and loads could produce far superior loads to machine loaded factory loads made with cost and H&S implications to cater for the masses. One of the Italian manufacturers (Clever?) actually hand selects and modifies their wad shotcups to produce a superior cartridge. Thank you for your help. Lord Geordie
Primers can be as low as £25 for 1000 if you use fiocchi 615 or 616. I just got 20 kilo of #7 for £56 posted to my door. Wads are normally £15-£20 per thousand from the same site as the primers. The only thing I am not sure on is Powders but have found them as low as about £28 for Hodgdon titewad Edited August 14, 2012 by Lord Geordie
Guest cookoff013
no, manufactured cartridges are cheaper because cartridge manufacturers buy loads of components in the millions or tons. they buy cheap, load cheaper. just depends whats cheap and available. for instance, GM3 is an industrial powder, has an average range from 28-32g it was very cheap and reloaded very well. manufacturers can buy powders homeloaders cant. hodgdons titewad is a favourite of mine. it can do 32g subs, 28g, 24g,21g loads but in reality the way its used isnt economical. even though low powder drops are used (16-18grain) now titewad is sold in 14oz tins, so using a european equivalent would be beneficial, with an extra 50-70 shells as equivalent is sold in 500g tins. vectan AS gets real uneconomical at 25 grains a drop. because it is real cheap. manually hand carefully selected grand components are just advertising rubbish. there are brilliant wads that are available. gulandi and b&p. Cartridges are a combination of hulls, powder, powder amount, wadding, lead amount. that all, nothing special.
