sitsinhedges
I've got access to a small river that often has ducks on it and with the season approaching was wondering what is the best way to tackle it. I've gone there in the early mornings in winter and had a mallard or two but wondered if there is a better way to approach it. Is it worth hanging around late on an evening at this time of year and is there any particular way the ducks would approach the river generally? Reabrook
Observation is the answer. Establish what the ducks are doing and shoot it accordingly. Are they roosting or feeding? Chances are being a river they'll be roosting so a morning ambush would be on the cards. If they are feeding an evening flight may be more likely. Spend a bit of time down there and all will become clear -hopefully!! Whatever shoot it lightly and resist the urge to go to often. Ducks don't like to much disturbance especially during the day. wildfowler.250
Observation is the answer. Establish what the ducks are doing and shoot it accordingly. Good advice. And if you're getting a couple then that's pretty good I'm my book. As reabrook also said, shoot it lightly.
