craftycarper
What's a good example of safe backstops and their situations, i mean if youre elevated in a high seat etc shooting down into a valley into low ground then that's all good and fine. But given the distance rounds travel how can you ever be sure apart from not shooting near houses, roads and public rights of ways? On reading this through again i suppose i've answered it myself

On reading this through again i suppose I've answered it myself That is a good question!!, and as long as you ask yourself, and you are satisfied with your answer before EVERY shot you should be OK, that is to say snap shots, IMHO, are what create poor situations, when your not considering the back stop. The back stop should always be land / earth / mud but not tree line or hedges, always be aware of footpaths and houses even if you have a good back stop, there's nothing to say the bullet will not deflect off bone or your back stop ( esp .22 rim ), better to let the quarry move or call it in, move position :(
henry d
It also helps if the ground is soft but not waterlogged as a bullet will skip off water I think most of my ricochets are from the headshots
