Gregthegreat
Had a fox with some DIY night vision last night and caught it on video. Firstly, apologies for the focus, it could have been better and it's normaly pin-sharp. This fox is lamp shy and won't respond to any calls. It usually skulks off at the first opportunity so last night I used the NV to good effect. I was on foot so made my way quietly into the field and popped the NV on. Straight away I caught the eyes around 150 yds away so then hit record. The squeak you can hear me give is all it took, I hadn't made a sound before that. The video shows the details, I took the shot when it was around 40 yds away - close enough to ensure a kill given this fox has been elusive. Click below for the video. The fox - a young vixen. Thanks for reading. Greg. EDIT: The time in the video is wrong as I had the battery out of the DVR to charge it. Actual time was approx. 2130hrs. click
Top job me and a mate are in the mists of doing the DIY night vision. Was hoping it was going to work out to 100 yds but if you squeaked it to 40 I'm sure the wmr will cope lol.
Gregthegreat
Cheers guys. TEH: Yeah, .223 at 40 yds whacked it good and proper! Click: The overriding factor for range will be the illuminator. I bought a focusable IR laser. It was set quite wide in the video.
