Cockerman59
Hi The birds are emptying the spring feeder of wheat and scattering it in about a 2 metre radius of the feeder. If the feeder is empty they are still pecking the sprinmg and leaving the wheat on the floor. Can I stop this happening as we seen to be wasting alot wheat. In general the birds are looking great, Dave
Paul223
have they just changed from pellet to wheat? is there any chance of said feeder having remnants of pellet before the wheat was put on top?
Cockerman59
Yes I have just changed, From being on pellets, I filled the feeders up with 50% pellet, 50% wheat mix and they seemed fine then the next time I filled with 100% wheat and they started scattering it, Are they looking fot the pellets? Paul223
yes they may take a day or two just throwing the wheat or scratching it away also I've found that if the wheat has a small amount of pellet then the birds will scatter the wheat in search of one or two pellets, we had one feeder last year which was getting emptied with a big ring of wheat around it whilst the other feeders were feeding wheat no problem, so i sat and watched the birds at this feeder and they would peck away dropping a lot of wheat on the floor scratch it about and only every now and then eating the odd pellet! I prefer to bag any remaining straight or mixed pellet off and put it all through just one or two feeders.
