Richard.Hosgood
After Tuesday's trip on the stubble for crows, I headed to a neighbouring farm and a field of corn stubble which tends to draw pigeons from 2 passing flight lines. The wind was strong and I hunkered down in the bottom of the field with the wind over my back and the sun in my face, not ideal but with the way the birds were floating in to the wind I felt gave the best chance of picking up a few. Started off with the crows which were committing very well, barrelling in low and fast from the top end of the field, flaring out and exposing their soft bellies perfectly as they stopped to land in the pattern, this accounted for 7 fairly early on, before they seemed to wise up and move on. Only the odd passing crow presented itself after that, with one more victim which was more interested in the sparrow hawk than me which proved to be his downfall, with a fair number of crows just hanging high in the wind out of range before spying me and turning off. The pigeons started flighting about 4pm, and I bagged 11 in just over a hour, including 4 high and very fast passing birds which I was very pleased to connect with. Finished the afternoon with 8 crows (7 picked) and 11 pigeon Edited August 31, 2012 by Richard.Hosgood
JDog
I enjoy your posts. You obviously know what you are doing - about flight lines and patterns etc and it is good to read reports of relatively modest bags.
Richard.Hosgood
Thanks - I would be the first to admit I am a newcomer to the art of decoying and wouldn't profess to being in the know by any means, but I have read a lot of useful info on here and, after walking the permissions and just sitting and watching, try to put it in to practise in the field, I know not to be afraid to chop and change things if they arent working, and to take in the info given from my experiences, so most of the credit must go to the posters of useful info on here Edited August 31, 2012 by Richard.Hosgood
