Degalle79
I have posted previously that our birds went to release pen on 7th July. Doing well although there is a good majority that are certainly not tailed that well at present. Based on your experiences do you think they will be ready by first sat in October? I know it is Hard to say without seeing them but as I say, based on your experiences. I should say that for their age I think they are still tailed quite well but you certainly wouldn't shoot them presently (season aside)
al4x
we very rarely shoot pheasants that early usually sticking to partridges and well grown pheasants till november. But yours were out early so you may be ok, really its best telling the guns to be picky and try and stick to ones with decent length tails. Paul223
Ours went in two weeks before yours and we start on the 6th oct, some of the birds look fantastic, really come on in the last two weeks, with 4 weeks to go a good majority will be ready, guns need to show restraint, and I think that is a good thing! First shoot is a small bore day
Degalle79
We have a 10 man club and we rough shoot individually with our own dogs. We have 10 members and shoot on a Saturday each week. We hunt all around the edges and try to beat back towards release pen. A sanctuary is designated around the pen and central wood so if birds stay there or are driven back they remain safe for the following week. There is no prob selecting 'good' birds this way and that's what I think we will agree to do, start on 6th too. Good to hear input from like minded people, thanks for the posts.
