wildfowler.250
What time are the ducks moving in the AM? I haven't been out since the 2nd sep. so can't remember! I know it varies around the country but I don't mind getting there a bit early anyway ps do you think there will still be enough moon by the end of the week to get out for a flight? I'm guessing probably not but i know you get a bit of leeway either side of the full moon. Totally lost track of things since going back to uni appreciate any info! anser2
I am not sure thats an easy question to answer . It will depend on your marsh. Last week during a mid week flight the duck moved with the first light , about 5.45 am on Monday not a bird moved until 7.30. If you do a web search for sunrise\set times and subtract 1 hour 15 m from sunrise you should be about right. Cloud will delay the flight of course. wildfowler.250
Thanks very much :good: will aim for 5.30. Cheers!
Grandalf
Problem at the moment is the moon. I went out last Sunday morning. Night of the full moon. Clear sky. Never got dark all night so there was no dawn flight as such. Birds had been flying about all night. At the moment you have a two thirds moon on the wane - so it gets dark after sunset but the moon comes up in the middle of the night. If the skies are clear you get a lot of light and the birds get restless and fly. Best mornings are the dark ones near new moon time or very cloudy with high winds or rain or fog. Proper fowling weather! Having said all that about the science - Just go - You'll still enjoy being out there.
wildfowler.250
Thanks, yeah if there's any chance of a go under the moon I'll give it a try. Morning should see something eventually
silver pigeon 3
This year i have all bar 1 of my ducks on evening flights, totally opposite looking back to last year! Have put in about the same amount of hours on am & pm flights. I enjoy morning flights more so will be sticking at them.
Yoggy
I actually prefer evening flights. 2 main reasons really....the obvious is I`ve had more successful flights in the evening. The second being is personal reasons and nothing to do with wildfowling....I get up at 4.30am 5 days a week and have been doing so for 27 years. So every chance I get for a lay in I tend to take it!!. Although I still do morning flights, Evenings remain my prefered choice. wildfowler.250
Cheers for all the replies! Main difference I've noticed is get there for duck times but I have much more luck with geese in AM than PM. Will post how things go
