The Essex Hunter
I had promised to take Martin for quite a while, what a night to pick with the rain tipping it down! I checked the forecast and it showed it would ease after 9pm. With a briefing on how it worked and what not to do off we went for the first drive around and there was a set of ruby eyes in the long grass. Know the first time lamp man has a baptism of fire, out the car, gun on the sticks and on with the lamp….wind is right but the fox in crouching in the long grass, a quick squeak, click, BANG…then a f### me from the lamp man. A very big fat fox and a smiling lamp man. Number 2 was a vixen in our last field for the evening; she went along the top of the headland and then popped over the ridge to have a look, no shot. I guessed she would move back to the headland. A quick flick with lamp, on the sticks….whack from the 700 in the chest at 130 yds and a second f### me from Martin Very pleased as I had spoken to the Sheppard on the way out and he is starting lambing next week.
