Wharf Rat
Bought some S4n today. Anyone have any fibre recipes they can recomend for 12g? I have been told to use 21.5 grains with a hot primer, 4mm NC, 21mm fibre and an undershot card to raise the wad height as it is denser than AS for 28g of shot, but notice that C & G give 21.5 for use with plastic wad. Cheers for any help. Edited December 25, 2012 by Wharf Rat
roughshooter
I upped it by 2 grains for fibrewad as all recipes that I have ate for plastic wads. They fired nicely in 32g game loads. A nice clean powder and very compact Regards Graham
Continental Shooter
Alright mate, S4n is a great powder which I use to load a lot for small birds when I was younger. The .N version is faster than usual (old) S4 and can be faster depending on batches so, I'b be careful if you have no previous experience loading this powder. The suggestion on 2 more grains on fiber is fair but given the loaf (28gr) I wouldnhave my doubts on patterns. I'd personally drop to the below 2 loads and try 3 shells each on a 1mt x 1mt piece of paper at 35 mt and check the each pattern. If they're consistent and satisfactory but you still want more speed, I'd add a 0.05 gr (1 grain) and try again for increased pressure sign, if it's ok and pattern still good, then go for it. 12/70 Fiocchi 616 or Cheddite CX200 (or U688 if you have it) 1,35 X 30 #6 or lower and star crimp at 58mm (you need to adjust the height of the wad accordingly) 12/67 Fiocchi 616 or Cheddite CX200 (or U688 if you have it)1,45 X 28,5 # 6 or lower star crimp at 56mm If you have plastic wad I can give you a all lot of loads to try Cheers, Franco
roughshooter
This is all the data I have for S4n. A good powder and very cheap!!! 70mm PT CX2000 21.5/1.39 S4n G-Spark 28g 6pt 70mm PT CX2000 23.0/1.49 S4n Vagner VP15 30g 1174/358 6pt 70mm PT CX2000 22.5/1.46 S4n SUPER-G22 32g 1161/354 6pt 70mm PT CX2000 22.5/1.46 S4n Vagner VP15 32g 6pt 70mm PT CX2000 22.5/1.46 S4n Vagner VP10 32g 1151/351 6pt 70mm PT CX2000 20.0/1.29 S4n Vagner VP20 36g 6pt I would be grateful to hear any other proven recipes particularly in fibre. It is a very compact powder and tends to need a longer than usual wad column compared to most powders. I will most probably be using this powder for all my lead shooting this year as I have a good supply of it at the right price I loaded 24.5 grains with 32g lead in a fibre load and it shot very well - albeit a little sharp but clean burning and little powder residue Regards Graham Edited December 26, 2012 by roughshooter

Wharf Rat
Thanks chaps! I will follow your advice re: building up from the 1.45gram (22.3 grain). I will use a cork over wad to help with patterns too. At £25 per kilo, I am hoping that this turns out to be a good powder that I can use 28 to 36 gram 12g. Gualandi list a couple of .410 and 20g loads too for S4n too.
