Olliesims
I heard somewhere that the blue ones are the heads from the .17 mach2, and as it did sell well there was a lot left and they banged them into hmr cases after they finished they started using red, not sure if that's true could be complete rubbish I read it somewhere, on here more than likely

Dekers
I heard somewhere that the blue ones are the heads from the .17 mach2, and as it did sell well there was a lot left and they banged them into hmr cases after they finished they started using red, not sure if that's true could be complete rubbish I read it somewhere, on here more than likely I understand Hornady started life as Blue for the HMR, then changed to Red. The Blue were indeed more recently the .17HM2 colour heads, all sorts of tales have come out about the colour and Hornady have remained tight llipped The fact is I was sceptical when I first found the Blue HMR so much cheaper but they perform the same as Red as far as I can see! The colour is a colour, the only difference as far as I'm aware is the colour!

Hornet 6
Red was the original colour for Hornady, the Blue were indeed made (by hornady) for Eley to load as HM2. Eley only loaded one batch in 2004, for several years the blue tip bullets just sat about doing nothing, obviously a deal was done with Eley and so we have blue tip hmr from Hornady, when first released I paid £6 per 50, against £10 per 50 for original red tip. So far as I know they were cheaper as loaded for the UK only. Some people have said the blues expand better as they were designed to work at 2200fps and not 2550fps, personally I'm sceptical of that. The blue tips should be cheaper, and were for awhile until greedy dealers decided on more profit. Although now I would bet Edgar's charge the same for either, as more profit for them. Neil.
