Hi,

Just wondering if anyone knows of any way you can distinguish what chamber size (70mm, 76mm etc) and proofing (i.e. for steel shot) a gun has from the markings on the barrels etc??

The guns in question are Miroku MK38 & an AYA Yeoman.

Cheers,

Oly.

I don't think EITHER will be steel shot proofed

The AYA should be chambered for 2&3/4" carts

Just because the crimped cart fits it doesn't mean it's chambered for that cartridge as the chamber also allows the crimp to unfold. If you use a 3" cart in a 2 and 3/4" chamber because it fits your gonna end up in trouble.

Normally on the barrels there is a stamp to tell you the chamber size.

As for Steel proffing i beleive this ALSO is on the barrels BUT if you use Multichokes be SURE the chokes also are steel proof.

Not sure on the Miroku??

The Yeoman will probably have 12-70 on the action and a bar pressure of 850 stamped on there as well. This is the normal marking for 12gauge, 70mm chamber (2¾ inch ) and normal pressure.

The Miroku will probably be 12-76 (3 inch) perhaps 1150 bar (or something similar) and shows a higher pressure proofing.

Neither will be proofed for steel.

Have a look at this. http://www.basc.org.uk/media/100_proof.pdf
