B725
After 10 years of working for me I have decided to retire my springer today,he has been a fantastic dog but is now deaf as a post and I cannot stop him on the whistle any more.We still managed to get a few so he has gone out on a high. DJL4
I'll bet HE won't be ready for retirement! They never seem to know when to stop. Deaf or not, I doubt you'll be able to slip out shooting without him knowing DaveL
ffeighty
If it's just a matter of not hearing the whistle anymore, you could buy a vibrating collar and get him used to it. I did this with my dad's springer a few years ago, and it worked very well (short single vibration = look at me, succession of short vibrations = come, long vibration = stop). scolopax
seems a strange reason to retire him if he is otherwise healthy! my dog is deaf now and still works as well (or as badly) as he ever has done.
