Big Dog
Hi guys. Just back this evening from Scotland Roe stalking, and I have my first ever deer kill hanging up in the garage, Sunday lunch secure . Shot this we fellow, or Prickett, about 0730am this morning, Tuesday 17th Oct. I shot him at about 200mtrs. He was very hard to see and was standing between 2 bushes watching us watching him. I didn't get time to get my shooting tripod stick up, I just leaned the rifle on the other stalkers shoulder and took the shot. It was perfect , hit right in the engine with a surprisingly small exit hole. The guys who took me out though I may had missed him as he saw a deer jump a fence and run into the thick cover. But it was a second one. This wee guy was lying about 12 ft from where I shot him. Rifle Savage 243 and Zeiss scope Had 4 stalks over my stay, almost got one yesterday but by the time we crawled into a good position he move off and alluded us. I have a question: Shot this morning and gallocked right away. Now handing in my garage, skin still on but head and legs off. What now? How long b4 skinning and cutting up??? I don't want to loose it now

Frank
MAGIC, good man BD. If you have a larder or cold room, ( fly vermin free) hang him for 4 days Skin him and cut him up straight away if you havent, as their is still flys about with this unusual weather we are having. That was quick, Scotland this morning, back home this evening?. Frank.

Devilishdave
Well done that man. It's quite a buzz isnt it? get your self over to these sites if you are going to take it up as a sport. http://s11.invisionfree.com/Passion_For_Stalking/index.php? http://www.modern-stalking.com/forums/index.php? What rifle / ammo did you use?
Big Dog
Thanks guys, it was really good, I really had to work over the days which adds to the satisfaction I felt on the way home. Devilishdave the rifle belonged to the guys that took we out as I did not have time to get my FAC conditioned to take my guns out of the country. Rifle: savage Cal: 243 Pill: Winchester 100g I think soft points??? they were copper with a lead point with a we flat on the tip. Scope: Zeiss fixed 8 mag The trigger was very heavy I recon 5-6lbs. Big change from my single set trigger Shot taken while standing and leaning the gun on the guys shoulder, that was a new experience

Dunkield
And so the addiction begins BD, well done fella If you still have the beast hanging up, you can try to find a friendly game dealer to butcher it up for you (and I mean friendly, most won't touch them round my way) The one guy I did find, sorted a Munty for me and packed it up into bags all frozen and labelled it all up for £12! I would like to have done it myself but I don't have the space unfortunately.
kip270
Well done BD, here is a recipe that may help http://www.countrysports.co.uk/sheets/recipes_cooking.htm
Big Dog
Thanks kip270, I will just follow that recipe. I will probably roast the rear leg on the bone.
Guest Mr Pieman
If you can get access to a cold room, hang it for three weeks. No cold room - if you can't keep the temp at 7 degrees or less, I'd do it straight away.
Frank
3 weeks Would it not go off Frank.
Guest Mr Pieman
Go off?!! Hell no! Good beef is often hung (chilled remember) for a minimum of 21 days. If you get the chance, try it - the taste is amazing
Big Dog
Some prime beef go up to 30 day but is very expensive as it looses size and weight. Your farts would be strong
Frank
My farts are bad enough, without extra fuel to boost it.... :( Frank.
