Teal
I've seen the sights, I was always told they were scottish birds, but could be scandinavian. Walking into a field of old stubble standing amongst hundreds of pigeon and you clap your hands they lift up to about knee height before they land again, absolutely knackered after their travels. maybe if I'd sneakily wanted to get a big bag of pigeon I could have used a stick and just walked around but didn't seem sporting somehow (no doubt farmer disagreed ) Where abouts in Ni are you from? brooktrout
Big flocks arrived also in S Wales a few weeks back. They have split now into smaller flocks, probably due to the shooting. Cagey birds though, and they wise up fast as the cover gets thinner. A welcome sight for winter shooters, but they certainly take some stalking by around December. Ive had some real sporting days , and also some blank {but always enjoyable} days stalking them in mid-winter. Ive got a lot of respect for these migrant woodies.
