Ok here goes.

I currently have an old Disco 96, that is getting a bit long in the tooth and due for replacement soon. At the moment I've no debt at all, no credit cards, loans, overdrafts etc and quite like it that way.

I love Land Rovers, have had loads etc, and like them. However a vehicle replacement is due soon.

Should I get say a Disco 2, even say cat D write off (father in law is a panel beater for a large ins chain etc) so can get it repaired easy enough, or go for something like an L200etc with a cover on the back?

Budget wise, I'm a tight ****** so say £4000 tops.

I've heard horror stories of mechanical probs with the L200, Navara etc. I know Hi Lux have a better reputation.

Off road wise all I have known are Land Rovers, are they that much better than others??

Also, if I did go for a pickup, how water tight are the rear covers??

Kind regards

Jonathan

I know of a 110 CSW for sale at under 3k ;) fella selling it is a good guy, been laning with him and its well serviced, 200tdi engine as well but does want a couple of small jobs doing hence the price

Mainly the rear drivers door welding up a little on the frame and a small patch on the passenger bulkhead pillar but thats the lot IIRC

You will get a lot more for your money with a pickup, 4k will get you a decent l200 or ranger arround an 05 plate. Rear backs are water tight assuming a decent one, reliability depends mostly on how they have been looked after. Look for a well cared for one with service history and you won't go far wrong, then use milners for any parts you need
