Does anyone use lurchers for retrieving and flushing? I have a young lurcher who is too heavy for coursing due to the cross but she is great at working cover, I'm just wondering if anyone uses lurchers this way? As I'm keen to try train her to retrieve as I have with my terrier.

yes this can be done, you don't mention the cross but off the betting field first crosses can come good as they mature though it depends if we are talking collie cross or some daft bullmastiff or some other insane cross

She is a first x bull greyhound. But....considering, she is infact very very intelligent and toys and treats happy, so I believe I can use this to my advantage.

Yep it can be done and is, one of my lurchers is very good at it.

Would have to disagree with the hard mouthed statement, a good friend of mine has a 2nd gen half cross, he will retrieve rabbits live to hand.

My bitch is quite hard mouthed with rabbits as she knows there easier to carry when there dead, any game she retrieves she is soft mouthed with.

its hard to generalise I know a few hard mouthed spaniels and labs. However Bull terriers aint exactly known for their tender bite

Got offered an 11 month old lurcher off a friend of the wife's who had "rescued" it as it was going to be put down because it was scared of bunnies does any one know of some one looking for one as a pet?

the mind boggles as to how someone achieved that one, that like making a lab frightened of sausage rolls!

yeah must admit i thought that i was told they were gonna kill it as it wouldnt hunt!! **** knows how they removed its natural instinct!! poor sod! wish i had room in my life for another dog but have got my hands full with the pup

It just isn't mature yet, it will pick up the game when it's ready. It's just a shame it had such a **** as an owner.

I hate stories such as these, some lurcher owners can be the worst of people.
