MattSoanes
Before i pay a visit to the vets tomorrow if things dont improve, just thought id pick the brains of some dog owners. Had her out for 2 busy days on the trot Thursday/Friday last week, on the last drive on Friday i noticed her slightly limping but she carried on as normal through the drive, then within the hour when i got her home she could not put her foot down, its now Sunday lunch time and its still the same. Ive checked for thorns and cant see anything and she is not licking her paw. Im hoping its a sprain or strained muscle, she will happily lay on that side so im thinking its not as serious as a break ( could i tell if it was?? ) Any thoughts?? Markr
vets cant always tel if a bones broke just by looking. has she any swelling on toes or bruising on toes/legs (if you wet the area it will make it easyer to see ny bruising etc )
kent
It needs a vet I think. But you might want to try isolating were the pain is by manipulation of each part to put things straight in you mind. A trick to reducing vet bills is if the dog starts limping stop work straight away
al4x
Check carefully for any heat or swelling, then move the limb about well to see if you can isolate where the pain actually is. if you can't find any then odds are its a sprain/ pulled muscle but don't discount a thorn in an unusual place I had one this year that was on the inside of one of her toes and quite high, that was a pain to get out and stop the infection as she licked it but wasn't lame on it. In your case if no improvement by tomorrow I'd have a trip to the vets but odds are it will show improvement.

Ive taken your advice and she gives a little squeak when i touch the inside top of the leg ( our armpit area ) ive just took her out in the garden for a wee and its the first time she has put weight on that leg since friday, though she still did not walk on it. I will see what she is like in the morning then get her to the vets if its not improved.
kent
That sounds quite bad then. Off to the vets
al4x
As its a front leg see what it's like in the morning, as its shown improvement since yesterday it may well be a pulled muscle. If its better still tomorrow then odds are its getting better if not then a vets trip but odds are they will just tell you to rest it and see how it goes
MattSoanes
I took her to the vets this afternoon and the verdict is damaged shoulder ligaments. They gave her a course of antibiotics and said a weeks rest should do the trick, lets hope so!!
swingit
What are antibiotics going to do for ligament damage ?
al4x
That's in case they have it wrong and there is actually a foreign body with infection causing it.
kent
What are antibiotics going to do for ligament damage ? either raise their margin or help support the dogs immune system from other infection during being laid up?
