Brown Sauce
Firstly, a huge thank you to shotgunspud aka Alex and his father Andrew. What a fabulous hunting ground they have. Photo to follow, sorry away from home at the mo.... The last week has been one of a few firsts and this last one has been no exception. My day stared at 2.15am, stopped to pickup another pw member and meet the rest of our party on the journey north. Christ it belted it down most of the way and you could see it on the land, standing water everywhere. Well, to my surprise the chocolate fireguard made it to welshpool. Greeted by Andrew at 6.00am with a brew and debrief of the day. 10 min drive to our spot on the river Severn, amazed at the number of birds still around this late on. Widgeon, teal, mallard, Canada and greylag. We split up, about 1/4 mile apart and waited for kickoff. Forecast had been for clear sky with no rain, so the thunder storm and hail was a turn up for the books!!!!! Sat on a hedge line, looking towards the wildfowl reserve, completely taken by surprise when over 150+ Canada geese came at us from behind heading into the reserve, honk honking. Now the advice of the morning was "lead the head", I shot like a complete muppet having never been on geese before and I apologise, hit a left n right, the left was well hit, coming down, but the right was a runner and by the time of scaling 2 barb wire fences, it was already floating down the Severn. Dogs were in the other field, bollards!!!! We ended our day with a total bag of 2 Canada's and 1 mallard. Ok not as big as other days, but we live and learn. Roll on November.. PS them geese wear body armour....
