Stubborn downloader virus

Hi,

On one computer in our house a few rather nasty viruses have taken hold. We have renewed out Norton antivirus which had slipped out of date and have removed some viruses such as a trojan horse, however... after Norton does one of it's lengthly scans of all the files on the computer it comes up with one 'Downloader' type virus that it can't delete. :( I think this may be to do with a new icon on my desktop called two.exe. 5 other similar ones appeared alongside it and were manually deleted by me but it says that I am not permitted (or some such twaddle) to view the file to delete it. :D I also have the problem of my Window's security centre deciding that my firewall is off and when I go to turn it on says that Window's cannot turn it on at the moment. How problematic... So whenever I have the wireless broardband plugged in loads of internet explorer pages open up with unwanted sites suck as links4all.biz. that I struggle to close due to the sheer number of them. Is there a way of manually removing the offending virus from my computer as Norton knows which one and file it is but can't delete it? :good::yes:

If anybody has any ideas on how to turn my firewall back on and get rid of this virus please let me know,

FM :D

Posting from my wife’s PC at the moment. Turned mine on tonight and all I get is a grey screen with a wizard telling me to install some hardware. Looks like it is in safe mode but without any of the desktop. I think my entire hard drive has gone or something. Started it up in safe mode, but there aren’t any programs on there so I can’t even do a restore.
