Guest rimotu66
Have been offered a 2.5 Jeep, I have read reviews and they dont seem to bad, just wondered if there was anything I shouold know, have never even sat in one so am a bit out of my comfort zone. Its done 93k, mot'd and taxed, not sure about s/h yet, winch and at tyres.
four-wheel-drive
They are mechanically very good the only thing to look out for is the head gasket the electrics can be a nightmare if something goes wrong but with good tyres they are better than a L/R off road. A mate of mine had one swapped it for a Jimny for a short time now he has a Jeep again.
delburt0
how much is it? you cannot say the heads are going to go unless they do "you pay yer money you take the chance" they are expensive to fix though... hard decision time...the petrol are a far better engine than the derv and realistically not that much difference in mpg probably 8-10mpg difference... I had a 2000/1 XJ 4ltr auto the best car that I ever had but Jeep do love to change things all of the time so getting parts was hit and miss the 1997 and before ones are a lot simpler to get parts for. NIGHT SEARCHER
The 2.5 lit Diesel is a VM DIESEL Engine Turbo charged. At 2000 rpm the big turbo kicks in and they go like stink. The Engine was designed for and used in power boats. Ford used the VM Diesel engine in the 2.5 lit diesel Scorpio loads of power and could do 50 mpg on a run. Has for expensive to repair what engine isn`t these days. Same with any 4x4 they are all expensive to repair.
Guest rimotu66
Thanks guys, I read they where expensive to repair but I guess everything else is, my TD5 head went last year not long after I bought it and I lost a lt of money on that so could do without going through the same with the Jeep, I guess I will have to gie it a thourough looking at and decide on the day. It will be a straight swap with my 323i Beemer if we do the deal. If not I will hold out for a Maverick or Terrano but definately not having another landrover.
