FERRETBOY
Hi All I know this is the non shooting part of the forum but i just thought if anyone had any info on the rules in the uk for posting weapons, reason being ive seen a few nice guns on the forum for sale recently but they are sometimes such a long way off it doesnt make financial sense, i apprieciate people selling a gun want to do it face to face for the obvious reasons but what are the laws ? is there a service ? cheers Andy
gibby
Air rifles etc. can be sent royal mail, if you want a firearm or shotty, your looking at a firearms transfer, most rfd charge £15 for this. Gibby

Gibby Cheers Gibby so what your saying then is you can only buy a shottie or firearm from a registered dealer if you want it posting, and the private seller does not have this facility, sorry for sounding a bit dense Andy
sutty
Hi Ferret boy. Ok this is how it works. Airguns can be sent via post no problem. however if you want to buy a SG or FA it has to be either face to face or through a RFD. What happens is, the person you are buying it from takes it to his RFD and he sends it to a RFD nominated by you, both RFD's will charge for the service usually £25 +£15delivery. You are not restricted to buying from a RFD only, they act as a third party. Hope this helps. regards Sutty
rarms
With air-rifles, AFAIK the only way the Royal Mail will insure them if they get damaged etc is Special Delivery, and most airguns are longer than the 60cm max size for this. Most places do accept longer parcels though and I have sent a fair few airguns by special. With Firearms/Shotties the person you are buying it from can actually ship it personally to your RFD so it will only involve the RFD nearest you recieving it. doesn't need to use an RFD local to him to send it. Still have to obviously pay postage and the fee for your one RFD.
