Richard V
Planning permission rejected, will be like living next door to the battle of the Somme every afternoon apparantly. Looks like Worsley for the forceeable future then. How many days was it going to be open?

Gozzy
Nimbys. Battle of the Somme ? It's always found that proposed site is home to a rare type of newt or fruit fly or last remaining site of un touched sacred ground in Northern Europe Nowt to do with noise. Is a pity though. Wouldn't say it is a minority sport as reported , I know more people that shoot than play dominoes
philm
Maybe something to do with HS2 rail link running past Hollins Green and Culcheth?
Richard V
Maybe something to do with HS2 rail link running past Hollins Green and Culcheth? I dunno, HS2 isn't too close to Risley Moss (as far as I know) like Gozzy said it's full of newts/whatever and I can Imagine it's a site of special scientific interest like Thelwall Eyes. There's loads of land around Callands/Gemini maybe try there, preferably within walking distance of my house
Gozzy
The old tip down by the ferry tavern over looking the river would be a good spot but the lease spotted seagul may have a breeding season coming up
Mr Potter
Looking at the plans on the Warrington Council website (search under Prospect Farm) I've always thought the footprint didn't look right for a clay pigeon shoot, the layouts didn't look wide enough for trap or skeet never mind sporting. It was obviously going to be aimed at the corporate type market rather than the competitive shooter and, if my memory serves me, they were applying for permission on only 3 or 4 afternoons per week (definitely not Sundays) with last shots at 4 or 5 o'clock. I know this area quite well, a mate on here lives about 1/2 a mile away, think there would only have been a few houses who would have heard the shooting and then only muffled. The objections were mainly concerned with its proximity to a nature reserve and general anti-gun sentiments. From a personal point of view I don't think I've missed much, other than curiosity because it's relatively close I doubt whether I'd have ever visited it. Richard V, we must be quite close neighbors, I'm at Gt. Sankey not far from The Woodlands. All that land at Callands/Gemini is earmarked for development in the not to distant future and even if not, certainly on the south side of the M62, noise issues would have made any proposal a non starter. Son Of Potter
This was really close to me in Birchwood, A shame really as another clay ground has got to be a good thing in my opinion!

What use was a ground where you could only shoot going away birds on a few afternoons a week and probably only after a squad of 15 corporate types had taken 40 mins to shoot 5 clays each. No great loss in my view. Potter Snr.
Wildfowler12
The old tip down by the ferry tavern over looking the river would be a good spot but the lease spotted seagul may have a breeding season coming up Nah, keep it away from there. That's one of my main wildfowling haunts besides, I can't see people being too pleased that they'd have to use non-toxic shot. Gozzy
It's a strange sport/hobbie this , it's in someways like the masons as most like to keep it under wraps that shotguns in the house , is there a funny handshake or funny walk to identify fellow shooters , have seen funny walks around worsley and catton but could be down to full colostomy bags
