V8landy
Hi, I am looking for some help in setting up a new IP web camera. I have managed to get a picture on the PC, but don't think I have done the port forwarding thing correctly. The instructions given are for a netgear router, and I have BT home hub. I can get to the hub manager, and portwarding and even advanced, but it does not show the same as the netger. Also people have said something about static and DDNS ips address? V8landy
I have given up with the BT hub and gone back to my old netgear (DG834GT) but still can not get it to port forward. I have followed this And checked on this site http://www.port-forwarding.net/port-forwarding-software/port_tester.pl?remote_address=86.160.103.59&port_number=7979&Submit=check But still port says closed. Any help?

HDAV
What doesn't work exactly? Port forwarding directs a specific port to a specific device do you have a device communicating on that port? What's its IP ? Then you direct traffic to your static IP address ( or DDNS) 87.56.45.12:123456 will open the port 123456 on the device 192.168.1.101 you are forwarding too! djgeoff
might be worth checking to see if your firewall/ firewalls ( if u have two like some people accidentally have, windows own and inbuilt one with internet security software) have are not blocking this program, i have had instances where i have had to manually set up firewall to accept program Edited March 5, 2013 by djgeoff

As I said to my wife, "it is very simple but complicated" !!! OK, so basic I have an IP CCTV cam I am trying to view outside of my network. I am with BT, so understand my IP is not static, which is need for the CCTV. I have set-up a static IP via http://www.dnsdynamic.org/ So how do I use this? I know IP of CCTV cam and its port, I have opened my firewall to WAN for the cam port.
Gnome of the Woods
When you register it will use the name you give it as an IP address. Use that ip and it will connect you no matter what the ip is of your router and then your cam assuming the forwarding is correct. We use No-Ip.org

HDAV
Does the camera have specific software or an app? Or access via browser? Have tried going to your the static name:port number from a external connection?
V8landy
Camera has app (Bi smarteye), and phone is blackberry, but I have just tried going via phone browser to my static and it just connection timmed out. On my pc, if i type in static IP (name) my netgear router page comes up, but if I add the :81 (port used) it says " This web page is not available
HDAV
hmmm SO you have static address and have port 81 pointed at the static IP of the camera. You have all the settings on the camera correct? try going to http://113.116.103.245:10540/ "user" "user" IS it a http://www.wansview.com/ camera? HAng on netgear? I thought it was a homehub? Oh ok you changed you need to make sure the port is open then forward to camera IP addy (ideally static but can be doen via MAC address. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXvkBMqU6P4 Edited March 5, 2013 by HDAV
