bedding a riffle?

Ok i have reached a point were i think my riffle could do with bedding.

The riffle is a .223 cz 527 varmint kevlar 1:9 twist 23.5" barrel.

The riffle is now grouping quite well after trying differnt ammo but not consistant (could be me) or the wind. Going from 5 touching shots to a 2" group at 100m

The stock is kevlar with a alloy block moled in. When beding in should the recoil lug also be beded and would having some better action to stock bolts benift,Ie high tensile or titanium screws-bolts.

Any help or info would be appreciated.

I am mechanical minded so i think i understand the principles (sort of)

I would like to do this before i start reloading.

Cheers Albert.

There are some great youtube articles on bedding the rifle, its a bit scary at first but as long as you use plenty of release agent then its pretty straight forward. kevlar stock with alley bedding block already, I expect the stock is made for the rifle then so will be better than standard anyway, with groups going from touching to 2inches I suspect there is something else going on either with clean regime or scope, is the barrel free floating in the stock.

The scope and mount are good. Ammo was the same wind was nill riffle was clean as you can get. Was using hornaday 55g vmax. Had problems in the past with the front action screw but now sorted. Bedding is just the next step forward I think. Looks quite easy enough.

Its got a h&s Kevlar stock with an aluminum bedding block and pillars. Looked at my past targets and ppu 55g and 69g dont group too well, the vmax55g and 5 home loads I made52g amax grouped alot better. At the moment im going from a 5 shot touching group to a 10 shot 2"group and wind shouldnt realy make that much difference at 100m,using hornaday 55g vmax. Maybe im expecting too much too soon from a second hand riffle and being fairly new to c/f. Going to bed the action and the first inch of the barrel as a matter of course.

Yes the barrel is free floating and everything else seems ok. Cleaning is finatical I zeroed from a clean barrel and with no wind can hit the vbull 10point area first shot in prone position with bipod and rear bag.

If you need pillars or Devcon pm me I've got some rem700 pillars I got off fister and well over half a tub of Devcon, £35 posted for both.

Atb Gary

Thanks for the offer but pillars are already in the stock and I will source some new beding compound when I work out which is best.

As said earlier, its very unlikely a stock problem and bedding may be a waste of time, what was the issue with the front action screw, this is the most important one of the two and if its not pulling the action and stock snuggly then could be a problem there. If it shoots ok clean and goes off maybe change cleaning regime and shoot dirty.

couldnt get it to on paper as it was recoiling of the front action screw, this has now been sorted. My next plan is to pass the riffle to a pro shot with my ammo and set up and see if they would be kind enough to do some groups for me. If its me then i will will be pleased in a odd kind of way. The action bolts down flat and even no pulling or miss alighnment.

Im just trying to upload some pictures of my groupings, bear with me.

Were are you albert?

How long have you shot centerfire?

Im in north wales also a member of two clubs been shooting c/f for a year now and shoot twice somtimes three times a month on the mod range. usually 100m but also do 200 and 300.

My main aim is to shoot f class or simular, but practice loads first,so i would like the riffle to be on form.

Yes the shots do feel good,as does the trigger and bolt.i guess ive just answered my problem,if the riffle wasnt right i would feel it i guess.

I can live with operator error  .

Not so, if the shots feel good (your happy you pulled the trigger at the right time and havent pulled on the gun during the shot) then it might not be you.

Whats the best ammo it shoots with?
