Columbus Polumbus
I was talking to an auctioneer friend the other day and I was stunned, we were talking about racing pigeons, he auctions them and allegedly, one was sold recently (racing pigeon that is) for ............................ wait for it ....................... £160,000 Can you believe it
Will Beasley
Oh yeah they go for some big bucks, not quite sure about 160 grand though, maybe 16 grand would be more like the right figure. Here's some irony for you while were on the subject of racers. I'm a Pigeon guide and I have a pet racing Pigeon called Percy. Yeah yeah, I know I must be going soft. Its quite bizarre when he sits in the barn and watches us unload a couple of hundred of his dead mates from the truck on our return.

brooktrout
At 160 or 16 grand, I,d be too terified to enter him in a fifty yard dash!
Yorkshire Pudding
I knew a fella in Ponte. called les jackson and he was well into his pigeon racing , some of his pigeons were in the 10's of thousands bracket . The racing is bet on very heaverly . So paying up to 40,000 for a bird is not a big deal when you are wagering thousands on the out come. all the best yis yp
brooktrout
I always wondered why Red Kites and Peregrines were scarce in Yorkshire Y P.

rjimmer
One of my uncles was paying £80.00 an egg 40 years ago.
brooktrout
£80 an egg in the sixties, so with inflation that must be around sixteen hundred quid an egg in todays cash. Incredible!. Does anyone know how much the record prize money is for a top class pigeon race?, or is it as YP says, all about the gambling interest?.
