Big Al
I am still not sure tent, trailer tent or caravan I would rule out a tent as sleeping on the ground is not for me. If you have loads of spare cash then a caravan To me the trailer tent is the best compromise - you sleep off the ground, your cooker etc is built in, you can store kit in the trailer and not in the car and you will have almosr as much space as a caravan with an awning. Unless it is lashing with rain - in which case a caravan is the mutts nuts - but why go camping in the rain? In good weather, the larger internal space of a caravan is irrelevant as most people will be outside or in an awning. There is definitely more comfort with a caravan, but if you want comfort that much then go for a b&b.
pimpkiller
If you havnt got a problem with storage then a caravan makes sense over a trailer tent, dont forget the tent might be cheaper but you still (usually) have to pay the same for a touring pitch and they are harder to look after and you have to put them up. With a van it will be warmer, sturdier, be more comfortable, you will be able to lug more stuff and have better facilities. Towing will be easier with a van as you can see the thing a trailer will be like an invisable van. If you are thinking of touring or going some distance dont underestimate how much fuel you will get through. If you went from chesterfield to cornwall for a week towing a van and had a diesel motor averaging 50mpg you will get through £200 easily and its a heck of alot of work towing for 6hrs. If you will be doing lots of shorter trips you dont have to worry about that but if they are longer and not so many seriously consider just hiring a static or eurotent, what you save in gear, fuel, time and hassle will make up for the cost. old rooster
Unless it is lashing with rain - in which case a caravan is the mutts nuts - but why go camping in the rain?. Is the answer to this bit: "because if you didn't go camping in the rain you would never go camping (in the UK)"
