B725
At the end of the pheasant shooting I had decided to retire my springer as is almost deaf.but as the spring drilling has now started I thought that he could do no harm pigeon shooting.I went back to when he was a pup and just sat in the hedge for the odd passing shot and so far so good. This afternoon I sent him for a pigeon and as he got to it a hare broke cover not two feet away from the pigeon, time just seemed to stop as I wondered what would happen but the dog just did as he was told picked the pigeon and came back. All the sessions in the rabbit pen when he was young was not wasted so I came home very happy I must add all the years I have had him he has always ignored hares which for me has been a bonus as the previous springer would go for ever chasing hares. B725
It was with Jack Ilife at Melbourne South Derbyshire he was the head keeper for Melbourne Estate,it was one of the best things I did when training the dog and Jack is a trialing man so he knew what he was doing,as he said to me the dog is the easy bit getting the handler to do as he should was the hard bit.
