al4x
We always keep up pressure on foxes on our small game shoot but this year they seem to keep coming and with the crops short we are actually able to get hold of them. we've a patch of decimated rape they seem to cross and having seen one we sat there last week at last light before lamping and had one cross 30 yards in front that never slowed from a run that 10 minutes later did the same thing in reverse. This is a bit that goes off our ground so checking for a litter in there wasn't possible, so re positioning a high seat into the area I had a sit on Saturday night expecting one might cross the same area. Great night to sit little wind lots about including a muntjac that walked up to 15 yards from the dog before thinking twice about coming closer, and lots of other wildlife. Last light one did appear but not from where it was expected but walked straight towards the high seat and at 60 yards it got whistled and stopped in its tracks by a 58gr vmax which was a barren vixen having shot that one I wondered if it might be feeding cubs while the vixen suckled and wondered if it was the same fox we saw the previous week, but a mate sat on tuesday night in the seat and saw one do exactly what we had seen from the other side of the field last light crossed same place but not a safe shot. So last night we thought we would park in the same place we had seen it before from and hope we could be fast enough to stop it for a shot, well safe to say it turned up early ignored a couple of whistles but just stopped at a shout and i managed to drop it cleanly at about 70 yards. This is one of the best condition dogs I've seen recently, so we are still no closer to having any idea if there is a litter with a vixen but will stick the trail cam out for a bit and see what shows. al4x
nope all just before it was needed, much as I like it there is something nice about taking them at last light just before its dark. The first though had it not walked towards me I might have been regretting not having fitted it by that point.
