B B
Tread softly and accept the .3006 refusal ask nicely if they will let you have a 7mm rem mag or even a shooting times westerner, they may just accept this esspecialy if you explain your reasons for wanting the 7mm inherent improved balistics of the 7mm and such like this is well documented in loading manuals and the WWW, just use this in your response, and i doubt they will refuse you to be honest. if they do take the .270 in my opinion you have not got a lot of choice. Any of those 7mms i mentioned or the .270W are a better option than a 3006 anyway.
Blunderbust
OP - whether a .270 will be fine for your purposes or not, please contest this decision. How could anyone look at any ground and say "mmm .270 will be okay but not a .30-06". Absolutely crazy and indicative of a decision maker who doesn't have the requisite knowledge to make these sort of judgements. At least ask them to set out their reasons for refusal in writing, they will be obliged to if you ask and it may make them actually think about what they have said. I'm off to sit in a dark room to calm down! I have to agree with the shootist on his statement, this is quite unbelievable.
njc110381
You've got to wonder where they get their ideas from at times! Is it a power thing? Or are they trying to push you towards the minimum calibre for the job? One can only assume that as they have been told that .270 is the recommended minimum, they are just putting that number forward without really doing their homework on what you're actually asking for? I'd chuck it back at them and ask for their reasons for refusal in writing. Quite how you can have one but not the other is beyond me, although as others have stated, they may actually have done you a favour by not granting a military calibre. Will you ever want to use it in France? In my time of talking to FEO's I've heard some stunners. Quite where they get their ideas from I can only wonder, but should someone who has an obvious lack of knowledge on a subject really be telling us what to do? I feel that I could put 75% of my force to shame in any test, in fact a lot of folk on here could. It sounds like this lot aren't much better! Thedeerman
I did question the decision, and for a few reasons that I won't go into I accepted the .270. Choose your battles and that..... I've since bought a Rem 700 and I'm really happy with it. Can't see me ever needing more gun to be honest.
Deiseboy
I wanted 30-06 for stalking and to take on a driven boar hunt in Germany later this year. What is that about, there is NO LEGAL minimum for Boar in the UK, if this some foreign thing? Suggested and recommended doesn't = LAW! This sort of nonsense enters into conversations, gets repeated ad nauseam and then becomes some sort of 'law' and used by FEOs 'Legal minimum for boar' 'Police approved cabinet' The list goes on.... People should read the op first
