Big Al
I have an Extrema 1 wetlands camo that I bought used last year. It is a great tool for the job but has been bumped about a bit in a boat by the looks of it. The camo is being worn off in places. I am not really a camo kind of guy. (I bought it as it was a Beretta at a good price.) If I was going to dicky it up a bit, is it possible to change the finish to matt black finish? Would the camo have to be stripped off first? Has anyone had anything like this done? Is it a DIY (cheap) thing to do or would it be something for a professional (expensive)? Thanks in advance. station
If the camo is hydro dipped and then finished with a 2k polyurethane lacquer then simply matt it of with some P1000 wet and dry or some grey scotch and paint it as you like. It would be best to do the black in basecoat and then 2k clear coat again for durability. If it is vinyl wrapped then you would have to remove it and then plastic prime before paint. Big Al
Thanks for the replies. I think I'll try and find out how the camo is on. I'll try the beretta website and gmk. Is there an easy way to find out if its hydro dipped or vinyl wrapped?
station
If you use some fine wet and dry (P1500) and gently start to flat a small area - if you see milky looking residue then it is clearcoat. If it is vinyl then you will see the colour of the section you are flatting as in green or whatever. Hope that helps.

In the mean time I thought I'd put up a couple of pics of the worst damage - it is all scraping. The barrel is not dented or damaged - it is all cosmetic. The dark patch above is right through the camo, but it never rusts - there must be another coating between it an the barrel. Most of the damage is this - a scraping off of the camo revealing a white layer underneath.
