colin lad
hi gents just reloading some .222 rounds, finished my 1st box of 100 opened the next box and they look different, both are 50grn Hornaday v-max 1st box the bullets seem dirty covered in what looks like lead dust like you get if you rub a pellet on paper 2nd box are all shiny bright copper with red tip 1st box says 50gr v-max moly 2nd box says 50gr v-max also the 1st box i have set to have overall length of 2.130 the second lot with die set the same are coming out at 2.140 my question is are they the same bullet and do i need to set die so the new ones measure 2.130 same as box one or can i leave it all set as it is as the 1st lot i made are fantastically accurate don't want to mess around with set up too much hope that all makes sense colin
sixhills 69
The first box are moly coated which i was told helps with wear on the barrel in practicle terms they would be slight difference same as have a moderator on or off changes the preformance of the bullet i would say if there is a difference in the OAL then they are not quite the same bullet Moly coating aside. Normal Hornady V-Max are the second box and an excellent bullet

bk
You will need to clean your barrel really well moving from moly to normal.
Underdog
Next time you buy check the numbers on the box so you get the same. U.
al4x
the other thing worth looking into is a bullet comparator to measure them with rather than going on the actual length as the bullets can vary a fair bit on their own. Measuring further down where it would engage the rifling makes comparisons between different bullet types far easier.
