mace1966
I have been shooting all my life since a small boy, and held a shotgun licence in the 90s but went on to fire arms and have had many yrs at it doing rabbits with the rimmie and hmr, then moving on to .223 to do foxing and enjoyed every minite of every day and night out over the yrs. This yr myself and my son have equired our shot gun cirtificate again my second his first to try some rough and some pigeon shooting, now i now not alot would have changed with the way pigeon feed but one thing i do know is alot has changed in the way of equipment like magnets flappers cradles bouncers and such we never had all that, i had 6 or 7 full body decoys and a net in the early 90s and was quite successful on most days on freshly drilled fields and then on the stubble fields later on.... we have been out a few times now and had a few pigeon comming in to 12 decoy shells on spring loaded sticks but not as many as i would have liked even though i have seen quite alot in the area before setting up, am i doing anything wrong or is it just that i have picked bad days, has anyone got any tips, when do they feed, do you use bouncers in your pattern or on the outsides of the pattern, how far from your pattern do you put a magnet, how far from your hide do you start with your decoys, thanks for reading and any tips would be greatfuly noted regards mace
aga man
i am by no means an expert pigeon shooter and i am also old school in my ways. i do have a rotary{homemade}. but the best advice i could give is to use dead birds as decoys. i try to keep at least ten in the freezer and get them out the night before shooting. then add deads to the pattern as you shoot them. marshy pete
Sometimes it goes that way, was on out peas at weekend, been getting hammered all week, I ended up with 13 and didn't miss that many! Bouncers and magnets can help and as mentioned dead birds are good, also make sure of your flightlines, there is some good info on patterns in the sticky at the top of this section but somedays they just aren't having it!!
