Cockerman59
Have set up a auto drinker system around the pen, put 1 IBC tank on top off another to get the height. What is the best way to transfer water up to it. I do not want to use a petrol driven pump. So I could us a invertor to power a 240v pump Or get a 12v bilge pump. What do other prople use? Any advice. Regards Dave
al4x
we put the tank where you can get a forklift to it and on a pallet so it simply gets taken back to the farm but putting on a trailer would work, otherwise its a slow process with most 12v pumps unless you start getting a decent petrol driven one
hillmouse
The petrol driven pump option is the best. I always used this method, even using it within the pen and I can assure you it will not scare your birds in the least. For the wetter pens it was possible to run a 20mm alkathene fill pipe to the IBC and avoid having to take the vehicle along rides with a tonne of water aboard. Just remember to make sure the fill pipe ends above water level to avoid syphoning back. You can probably guess how I know that.
PhilR
We have a 1000 litre IBC set at high level which gravity feed to the drinkers in each of our three pens. To replenish them we use another IBC bought down from the farmyard using a Manitou low loader with pallet forks fitted. We raise the IBC on the Manitou to above the IBC at pen height and transfer using a 100mm hose, by gravity. It only takes a few minutes to refill. The trip three times to and from the farmyard takes the most time.

JustJon
How many chlorine tabs would you put with a 1000 ltrs to stop algae ad bacteria intresting to know thanks R S.Depends on the tablet size, normally 1 for 1000 litres. Can get smaller tablets to help when topping IBC's up or using smaller containers which are 1 tablet per 200 litres. That's a drinking water rate.
