DirtyDeeds
Had a call from my FEO (Ongar -Essex). He's coming Thurs pm to inspect the property after which the certificate can be granted (so everything else must have been OK inc. my 'episode' 14 yrs back). I asked if I had to have a gun safe in place. He said not for the granting of the cert., but if/when at a later date I buy my gun, I'll have to inform them and they'll make another site visit. He said he'd discuss cabinet location when he visits. Now everything's going 'hapenny - half a crown'!
dazzyboi
I dont think you will have a problem, he bought up 3 seperate items which i had on my record from my school days (all cautions warnings) , i got on well with him, i already had a cabinet in place. The visit mainly consisted of a long chat, some detail checks and a tug on the cabinet to make sure it was secure and off he went, i recieved my SGC a week later. suggs
nice one mate it i dout they will knock you back if they are doing a visit, you will get your cert about a week after the visit, would have thought you would need to get the safe fitted and FLO checked before buying the gun though.. DirtyDeeds
its on the visit that you learn if they are going to nick you for anything. Don't worry - I've got the furry handcuffs ready! Seriously though, I got the impression that he would like to issue the cert. soon'ish, wether for my benefit or his schedule I don't know. The shotgun is going to be a late Xmas prezzy to myself anyway, so no rush there. I am surprised at how quick it all is - the web site says issueing can be 8-10 weeks, a guy in a gun shop in Romford said his was issued in about 3 weeks and mines on track to be the same. Watch this space.
plexer
but if/when at a later date I buy my gun, I'll have to inform them and they'll make another site visit. When I had my visit he didn't expect me to have a cabinet allready even though I allready did because if you don't get passed then you'll have wasted money on one. However I doubt they will make another visit after it's been issued just because you inform them you've purchased a shotgun. Obviously when it's time for renewal in 5 years time they'll expect to see your security arangements. Ben

Ben Possibly on his visit, if he's happy about where I intend to fix the cabinet, then maybe not. I'm assuming that by the time of the visit, they've normally done all the other checks, history, medical, etc? I don't know if having previous checks has helped? I drive a taxi locally and have regular police checks for that.
