steve0146
I have a 9ft fiberglass dinghy for shooting from. Just bought a couple of months ago. The middle seat is massive. Just thin ply going across the middle of the boat and down into the floor. Could I remove this to make more room, or is it needed for support? happy.plinker
It's needed for support, do you sit on it when your rowing? If your not going far in it or in choppy sea's you could beef up the gunwhales then take the seat out.
Grandalf
Picture needed to make a proper judgement but I would imagine it is part of the main structure.
mudpatten
Have you ever shot before from a 9ft dinghy?
steve0146
Not yet. Have shot from the boats on Rockland Broad. Why?
mudpatten
From a never to be repeated practical experience it`s just that, depending on the hull shape, a 9ft dinghy can be a bit tippy. I could be wrong but aren`t the club boats on Rockland bigger than 9 feet? Be careful out there!
steve0146
I might just use it to get to the shooting area and hide up in the vegetation. Its a 10 min boat trip from my house or a 50 min car journey and walk to get around the estuary!
Grandalf
The Rockland boats are about 12' from memory - wide beamed and quite stable - on a Norfolk Broad. I had a 10' dinghy that I used for years for fowling on the Alde in Suffolk. Big tidal estuary. Could get a bit hairy on occasions - especially in the dark on a big tide. Useless to shoot from unless beached on the mud. Super to scoot around the marsh areas, Our permit was to shoot from the mud area - not the land. So I built a hide system that would fit around the boat in a couple of minutes. Having beached in a suitable gutter I would erect the hide and stay there until the tide came back to float me off. Long blissfull days with only the dog for company. Got to be very carefull in a boat of that size when out on your own but excellent fun.
