Good morning all ,

well I got my new shot gun on Friday , after what felt like a lifetime of saving . ... Anyway moving on ......

I have been shooting since I was 7 yrs old, my first shotgun was a little .410 bolt action my dad bought me (and am now 46 as of Tuesday next week ) so its fair to say shooting has been a massive part of my life , I have my DSC level 1 and DSC level 2 , I used to shoot everything from .22LR to 222.223. 243AI . 308 and my last rifle .338 Lap Mag , all on open tickets .until I gave up my FAC .point im trying to make , is im not a newcomer to the sport , however I still have things to learn like many of us , and advise has always been welcomed from myself . after all , its how we learn .

up until 5-6 yrs ago I have permission to shot over 10,000 acres spread over 4 farms , I and shot over them very successfully for over 15 yrs ,

until I had to give them up due to a rather rubbish and divorce and to be honest my heart wasn't really in the sport , so l I told the land owners that I was going to pack up for a while , however I knew a lots of Safe experienced shooters that I would introduce to them and providing that everyone was happy they would take over indefinitely . which I did and everything went well and everybody was happy , anyways Im happily re-married and want to get back into the sport , ( just shotguns really , its what love the most ) and have taken steps to get myself a couple of shotguns , and join a new club , even the wife has started busting a few clays which is great and we have a lot of fun .

but at long last my point is this ...

I want to get back into some pigeon shooting , I don't want to go back and ask the old land owners , because as I said I gave those shoots up , and I know the people who I introduced and have taken over have really worked hard to make it there own shoot and I wont step on there toes , I wouldn't like it and I really don't want them to feel like they owe me , because they don't , after all they done me the favour ,

so Im quite happy to start all over again a find myself another little pigeon shoot , I don't mind at all , I feel that's half the fun .

still that don't stop the craving for a day sitting in the field staring at my decoy pattern wondering should I change it or leave it alone just in case something comes along haha ( yes we have all done it , and you know who you are )

so in the meantime I have seen some of these pigeon shooting days out , cost is somewhere between £60 -£90 a day depending on your requirements

has anybody been on one ? can anyone recommend one ? but more to the point are they any good ?

im really sorry for the long winded explanation , I felt it was easier to explain why and how im in the situation in the first place , its save questions in the long run I spose

anyway any help would be greatly received and more importantly appreciated

regards steve

this may sound daft , and it may sound to some like im shooting myself in the foot ( no pun intended ) , I just don't like / want to rely on others I spose ,

please don't take this as a me hinting to get invites from fellow members , that's really not the goal here as nice is it may be , I have no hidden agenda , its just that some of the reviews on the pigeon shooting days , I cant help but wonder if they can be relied upon if you know what I mean , I don't mind paying for a day , I just want to know if they actually any good ?

regards steve

You sound like a very decent sort.

Actionpigeons on this forum is the man to speak to about some days out

I wouldn't go that far haha , just bought up knowing that it cost nothing to be right with people .

Pro Tom 1 on here offers day in the Lincoln area so it could be worth a PM to him

I have not shot on one of his days so have no idea if its value for money.

that's great to know , thank you very much , I will drop him a line

regards and thanks

Hi Steve Fenny on here often offers shooting days to PW members but it is 60miles away from you...so depends on if you want to travel.

I shoot with him and know that we are the same as most...waiting for things to pick up.

He has not offered any shooting this year other than charity events, this shows he will only offer it if the birds are there to be shot...as we know they have not consistently been in any great numbers.

We are going out on tuesday together all day, and this could go into the night as I am sure we will want to go lamping as we have a large amount of rabbit to clear.

Pro Tom 1 would be your best bet as he is close, or as Fenboy says let those who took over from you on your permissions know you are looking for a bit of pigeon shooting.

Welcome back and good luck Steve.
