Got all tensed up yesterday for a day on barely stubble only to find that when we arrived at 10 AM thy were cutting the hedge round the field. So we set up on the grass field next to it about 500 yards away by the manure heap. Had 8 by 2.30 PM when the hedge trimmer trundled across our field back to the farm, Keeping an eye on the stubble by 3.15 it started to happen birds moving into the stubble, time to move set up under the big oak sittey tree and finished with 58 picked up 5 lost. Bad start but great finish. :yahoo:

'Got all tensed up'. Many will know how you felt. I still get that feeling after over 1000 days decoying. I do try not to think about the morrow and sometimes I can happily turn my mind to other matters but then it just drifts back to pigeon shooting.

At this time of year there are all sorts of upsets when a day is planned on a particular field. I went to one last evening which had barley stubble on and numbers were building up on it. To my horror there was a tractor as big as a house pulling discs as wide as a tennis court doing what that sort of machinery does. However all is not lost as pigeons were getting in behind the tractor so I'm off to shoot it this afternoon before they get on and drill next season's rape crop.

You had great patience waiting four hours for the hedge trimmer to leave and did well in the end.
