roger3167
Wanting to purchase a Sako Quad .22 with synthetic stock, does anyone know is it worth paying the extra for the Heavy Barrel or is the standard sporter barrel just as accurate? gazzala
Hi roger I've got a sako quad in 17hmr with a heavy barrel. I only got it in a heavy because most of my shooting is done from a Polaris ranger so the extra weight isn't a issue , accuracy benefits probably not really noticeable Cheers Gaz
tjm160
It seems we're going in opposite directions Roger. I started with an HMR Quad (which I love), but want a quieter semi for rabbiting so am about to purchase a 10/22 from Welsh Warrior. Being able to take free standing rabbiting shots up to ~80 yds with the standard barrel (and rarely missing), I wouldn't personally wish to swap for a heavier barrel. tharsus
The stocks are different on the sporter and varmint too, so it depends on what you like,a heavy barrel is not needed on a rimfire though, they never heat up.
roger3167
The overall weight of the rifle was not an issue for me , it was purely accuracy, but as stated by tharsus probably never heats up to notice any difference. . Any body that has the heavy barrel, did you have to add extra weight in the stock or was it balanced ok?
keg
I have the 22 Quad in synthetic and have yet to have any accuracy problems other than those created by me. Had the barrel shortened as well and is still fine. Would suggest that unless you are shooting 1000s of rounds a month, the normal barrel is fine
Bewsher500
tried both form over function IMO don't see any accuracy issues even when shooting long strings at the range (I have the WMR and HMR which do get warm when you empty a 10 shot mag quickly, but nothing like a CF)
