kent
Down to the individual dog, its parents and the training it receives. Spaniels are more prone to noise than Labs generally though the reverse can also be true if you look at a good well bred and reared spanner and a badly done retriever. I have to say there is no great advantage to an ESS x Lab other than a cheaper purchase price, hybrid vigour needs to be off set against the fact that 50/50 (good bits of both) is unlikely genetically- you might get all the rubbish from either side mixing just as easy. Personally I should examine the reasons why this mating took place, accidents happen but deliberate crosses can be a way of making extra cash. Pure spanners or pure labs fetch a higher price but you can only register so many litters from one bitch. If its a first gundog my thoughts are buy a pure one from a respected genuine breeder, that way at least you know what your working with from the off. The retriever is the natural pigeon dog of choice breed wise
