Pole Star
I have always been wondering about a curious event while shooting rats some years back & I wonder if anyone on PW has ever experienced this before . This happened in South Oxfordshire where a farmer had been dumping trailer loads of chaff ect from his grain bins down next to a brook/burn which the rats had found as they would ! & had taken up home in this huge pile of food by burrowing into it so it was a perfect place for a spot of ratting . So what the lads did was head down there with with guns & a bucket to take water from the brook so they could flush out the rats from their new home come larder , this set up worked great & & after a few bucket fulls of water poured in the highest hole rats were vacating their home in all directions until they got the last one , or so they thought ! .. After a body count the lads were sat about chatting & admiring their handy work & my brother was sat on the upturned bucket when all of a sudden a rat came out of a hole squealing & running straight for my brother who in sudden alarm was desperately trying to load his gun but the rat was almost at him so in desperation he kicked the rat which went skywards & by the time it came back to earth the lads were all loaded & ready & the rat died in a barrage gun shots ! . Question is what made this brave rat commit harry karry Pole Star PS OOOPS apologies for the smelling****take of the STRANGE ! its too late to change it
Lord Geordie
Most rats will often show this kind of behaviour when under threat! You wouldn't give in without a fight either would you? You put yourself in it's path!
Pole Star
But all shooting had finished for some time ? it was most strange , I have watched a lot of ratting videos ect & never seen any thing like it . Ps has this ever happened to you ? I know they will go for you when cornered & I had one spring of a wall at night by torch light but I think that was because my German Shepard was investigating the rats scent the other side of the wall . SEshooter
We was ratting in a grain store one nite, I was shining about with my lamp and spotted one sitting on a steel beam about 10ft up in the air. As I loaded my super10 it was like it knew what was coming. It launched of the beam straight at me. If I hadn't ducked out the way there was no dout it would have hit me squar in the head. Brazen little ******

Pole Star
If one dose actually succeed in getting at you what will the out come be ? will the filthy thing bite ? most likely ! & as most of us know if its carrying rat jaundice there is a good possibility you will get it which can be fatal ! I know 2 people who have had it so it is around . Note I had a Jackrussel who had it once & almost lost him through it .

I for one would not want to be on the receiving end of it.
