Sat Rat Posted August 31, 2013 Report Share Posted August 31, 2013 l personally think it was coming into the heliport while it was foggy and the pilot had no visual reference and became disoriented and powered down too early!,flown in countless times over the years and crashed in a couple as well but thankfully we have all made it back to talk about it in the pub.must say it's not my favourite form of travel,and my thoughts go out to the families of those who have lost their lives. Didn't a Chinook ditch in the sea in the early 80s and because of this incident all chinooks were stopped from going to the rigs? Can't remember if it ditched or hit a rig tbh.
