Longy0710
Evening Gents I have finally lost my patience with my labs chewing my wooden kennels and have decided to look into going brick built. Does anyone on here have brick kennels? What are the pros/cons? Any pictures or advice from experience? Please let me know Thanks Longy
Rupert
Expensive to build but durable.
lee-kinsman
Yes I have concrete block built kennels. If you can do the blocking it's cheaper than buying a wooden ready made one.
Longy0710
I have a mate in the trade but I have a feeling I will need to make my concrete base bigger/thicker so thats where the cost will be.
scotslad
Are u just going to make the small sleeping boxes out of block or meaning to make a whole walk in afair. In theory u could just make small sleeping units if they were well insulated and attach metal runs to them, might not need to alter an awful lot of ur concrete base. Can u not just adapt screw those metal/aluminium edgeing things onto ur current bed boxes? My mate changed all his and instead of using timber has bought sheets of rycycled plastic 'ply' (look on solway recycling site) looks the business and still used metal edgeing, plus be hygenic and dry quickly althou is quite dear
Peskyfoxs
I have just redone all my kennels in block, they have a 2.5m run and and a 1.5x1m bedroom. Got some used stable mats for the bedroom floor. Used 50mm kingspan over bedroom and they each have a tube heater installed. Luckily all my kennels are indoors with the building doors opening up to give natural light so flooring wasn't needed. Before that we had wooden bedroom and bar runs but these are warmer and easy to clean, with the bonus of no lore chewing. I have 2 springers and quite a few German shepherds. Longy0710
Thanks peskyFoxs. How much did it set you back and did you just do the block sleeping areas or full runs? Do you have any pictures??
Peskyfoxs
I haven't dared add it up, the run is block as well, about 1.6m high. I'm guessing about £70-£80 per run and we already had the doors. This one is part built and 2.5m wide and 3m long, bedroom at the back prior to insulation or matting Double doors open fully so dog can see out
